Hemorrhoid Cures and Treatment Options

Now that we are in the 21st century, we would like to think that medical science has advanced to a point where doctors can “cure” just about everything. In the past half century, we have effectively eliminated polio, smallpox, measles and a number of other formerly-deadly diseases. Unfortunately, there are some medical conditions that science has yet to fix on a permanent basis. As of yet, we have not cured cancer or the common cold. There are also, at the moment, no hemorrhoid cures.

Hemorrhoids are a swelling of veins in the anal canal and can result from genetic conditions, obesity, pregnancy, a poor diet, constipation, stress or any one of a number of other factors. The primary symptoms are itching in the rectal area, rectal bleeding, pain during bowel movements and discomfort when sitting for prolonged period of time. While there are a number of effective treatments for this problem, there are no permanent hemorrhoid cures.

What sort of treatments work best for hemorrhoids? The following have proven to work pretty well, though none of these is permanent.

  • A high-fiber diet can go a long way towards helping eliminating and minimizing swelling. Many people suffer from hemorrhoids due to straining during a bowel movement; this stems from constipation. Constipation can be minimized by eating a diet that is high in beans, grains, vegetables, and fruit. Drinking lots of water can help, and avoiding diuretics such as coffee and alcohol can help, as well.
  • A warm bath, known as a sitz bath, can provide temporary relief. Try to take a fifteen or twenty minute bath twice a day as necessary. This isn't a hemorrhoid cure, but it can help you feel better.
  • Surgery. While really the last resort, some ten percent of all sufferers will have to undergo surgery to eliminate their hemorrhoidal tissue. Surgery should not be considered a hemorrhoid cure; they can return at a later time.
  • Over the counter medications. There are a number of over the counter medications, such as Venapro, that can help relieve symptoms of hemorrhoids. There are also a number of prescription medications that you can get through your doctor that may help.

If your symptoms persist over a long period of time or if they are accompanied by regular bleeding, you should see your doctor, as these symptoms can be indicative of a more serious medical condition.

While there are no hemorrhoid cures at the moment, most people find that it is a treatable condition.  In fact, there are a number of over the counter medications that provide relief from the pain, swelling and bleeding that often accompanies hemorrhoid suffering.  You can buy them over the Internet in a safe, discreet manner.
